Rise of Saffron termites: Naranjee Deemakein, Urdu poem against Fascism

'Naranji Deemakein' is a poem against fascism--how fascists capture institution after institution, impose ideology, paint all with the same colour and their march continues even if it causes immense suffering and destruction in the society.

सबसे पहले उन्होंने इल्म ओ फ़न पर हमला किया

तारीख़ ओ फलसफे की किताबें, शाहपारे चट किये 

फिर कुतुबखाने, दानिशगाहें*, इल्म का हर मरकज़ 

हर चीज़ उनकी ज़द में आ गयी 

सब कुछ खोखला करती वह आगे बढ़ती गयीं 

अनगिनत हो गईं 

इस क़दर कि जहां जातीं बस उनका ही रंग नज़र आता

उन्होंने इमारतों पर यूरिश** की

हर दर ओ दीवार में दाखिल हो गयीं

सब उनके बारे में ही सोच रहे थे कि वह दिमागों पर भी मुसल्लत* हो गयीं
आखिर ऐवानों** तक पहुँच गयीं

शहर, सूबे और मुल्क

अब सब जगह फैल गयी हैं
ये नारंजी दीमकें

tarikh-o-falsafe ki kitaabein, shahpaare chaT kiye

har cheez unki zad mein aa gayi
sab kuchh khokhla karti woh badhti hi gayi.n...

har dar-o-divaar mein daakhil ho gayee.n
sab unke baare mein hi soch rahe the ki
woh dimaaGho.n par bhi musallat ho gayee.n

aakhir aiwaano.n tak pohanch gayee.n
shahar, soobe aur mulk
ab sab jagah phail gayee hain

Context: The verse hints at a situation where a fascist group that is identifiable by a particular flag or hue, promotes a racist and xenophobic ideology, attacks institutions, captures media and minds, finally having all arms of the state and entire power in its hands.

Often, the fascist under the shield of nationalism move ahead, then turn ultra nationalists and under the guise of cultural nationalism, take over the complete discourse, while they otherize minorities and vulnerable groups. The poem hints towards a similar situation.

اس میں ان حالات کو بیان کیا گیا ہے کہ کس طرح اس طرح فاشی ذہنیت کے لوگ ہر ادارے میں سرایت کر جاتے ہیں، ان پر قبضہ کر لیتے ہیں اور دھیرے دھیرے ملک کے نظام کو مکمل طور پر قابو میں کر لیتے ہیں۔
