हर एक लम्हा तुम अपने ज़हन की खिड़की खुली रखना 

बहुत सफ्फाक दुनिया है, हर एक पल चौकसी रखना 

बहुत शातिर है वह, गुस्सा दिला कर ज़ेर* करता है 

जब उससे बात करना, तुम दलाएल वाजिबी रखना 

ज़िहानत का पता तो बात करने से ही चलता है 

मगर इस को बचाता है ज़बां पर ख़ामशी रखना 

घिरा हूँ मसलहत-कारों में, फिर भी मैं हूँ ताबिन्दा 

मुझे महफूज़ रखता है नज़र में शो'लगी रखना 

अगर तुम चाहते हो कि सग-ए-दुनिया ही कहलाओ

इस जहां से लिया था जो उसने

सब ज़माने को दिये बैठा है

इताब ओ क़हर का हर एक निशान बोलेगा 

मैं चुप रहा तो शिकस्ता मकान बोलेगा

तेरे खिलाफ हर एक बेज़ुबान बोलेगा

हमारी चीख कभी बेअसर नहीं होगी

Nomaan 'Shauq' is one of the most respected names in Urdu literature.

Apart from the genre of ghazals, he is known for his unique Nazms. In extraordinary times, poet has to speak up and raise his voice against injustice. 

फिर इस मज़ाक़ को जम्हूरियत* का नाम दिया

हमें डराने लगे वो हमारी ताक़त से

और मत देखिए अब अद्ल-ए-जहाँगीर के ख़्वाब

और कुछ कीजिए ज़ंजीर हिलाने के सिवा

ज़मीर जाग रहा हो तो नींद क्या आए

ये शोर वो सुने जिस को सुनाई देता है

जी भर के क़त्ल-ए-आम* कि सरदार ख़ुश रहे

फिर साथ रोइये कि अज़ादार* ख़ुश रहे

आप का किरदार तो दरबार में गूंगे का है

आप तो तालू से चिपकाए ज़बां बैठे रहें

इन्साफ़ अपनी क़ब्र में करवट न ले सका

मज़लूम* तालियां ही बजाने में रह ग‌ए

आज़ादी आप चाहें तो रख लें इसी का नाम

Nomaan Shauq

NOTE: Syed Mohammad Nomaan who is known as Nomaan Shauq in literary world, was born on July 2, 1965 in Ara, Bihar. The author, whose poetry is heard with rapt attention, has several collections of poetry to his name.

The collections include 'Jalta Shikaara Dhoondhne Mein', 'Ajnabi Saa'ato.n ke Darmiyaa.n' and 'Freezer Mein Rakhi Shaam'. His couplets are widely quoted and his books, collections have been published in Hindi [Devnagri script] also.
