कभी उसकी जब याद आती नहीं है 

उदासी क्यूँ दिल से जाती नहीं है 

है एक फाँस अटकी हुई दिल में जैसे 

कहीं कोई भी चीज़ भाती नहीं है 

ये कैसी अजब दुनिया हमने बना ली 

कि एक चिड़िया तक घर में आती नहीं है 

ये मीरास٭ सदियों की, नस्लों के ग़म हैं 

ये जो दर्द है सिर्फ ज़ाती नहीं है

Meeraas [मीरास]= That is inherited or acquired from early generations. Here it is about collective pain, sufferings over generations that have been internalized and add to the existing feeling of frustration or persecution.
