Poet Majaz' Urdu couplet on failure in love: O my friends, I have no sorrow though I have ruined myself
Friday, March 14, 2025
Read his ghazal:
Now read in Roman English script:

Selected couplets of Urdu poet Yaqoob Rahi: Harsh, straight-forward and rebellious poetry
Born in Raigarh in Maharashtra. he later shifted to Mumbai.
Now read in Roman English script:
Khush-kalaami se kab log seedhe hue
Talkh-goi karo, bad-zubani karo
Sarkashi, jabr-o-zulm ka hai jawab
zeher ko sirf zehr maare hai
Ye kya ki sabr-o-tahammul ki paR gayi aadat
Ye kya ki jurat-e-ahle-e-sitam baDhaate rahe
Ek hi jang mei.n thakna kaisa
aakhri jang ko tayyar raho
maqtal-e-shahr mein jab harf-e-wafa kho jaye

Ye kya ki jurat-e-ahle-e-sitam baDhaate rahe

Renowned poet Nomaan Shauq's selected couplets that give voice to angst of citizen
Apart from the genre of ghazals, he is known for his unique Nazms. In extraordinary times, poet has to speak up and raise his voice against injustice.

Ode to Bhopal: Poetry praises Bhopal, dedicated to city and its culture by Shams Ur Rehman Alavi
This Nazm is dedicated to the city, known for its unique history, culture and scenic beauty.

NOTE: Urdu literature has a tradition of writers' penning odes or verses on special occasions or for the cities, places they are in love, with. It is a similar effort.
A poem for Bhopal, the city that has a unique history--known as City of Begums, as well as City of Lakes, which is seen as a place of empowerment for women, as four women ruled the princely state for over a century. Despite growing communalism, the poet yearns for harmony and idealism. This has to be seen in the context.
