Brij Narain Chakbast (1882-1926), who was born in Faizabad, was a near contemporary of Iqbal. A Kashmiri Brahmin, Chakbast's poetry is philosophical and moralistic.He is regarded among the leading Urdu poets of all time.

फ़ना का होश आना ज़िंदगी का दर्द-ए-सर जाना
अजल* क्या है खुमार-ए-बादा-ए-हस्ती उतर जाना

मुसीबत में बशर के जौहर-ए-मरदाना खुलते हैं
मुबारक बुजदिलों को गर्दिश-ए-किस्मत से डर जाना

बोहत सौदा रहा वाएज़ तुझे नार-ए-जहन्नुम का
मज़ा सोज़-ए-मोहब्बत का भी कुछ ए बेखबर जाना

bohat saudaa rahaa vaaez tujhe naar-e-jahannum kaa
mazaa soz-e-mohabbat kaa bhii kuchh ae bekhabar jaanaa
