Poetry against Oppression, Injustice and Violence: Urdu nazm on fight for ideals and hope against despots

This Urdu nazm is regarding organised violence and injustice in the society*. Shams Ur Rehman Alavi is a Bhopal based writer.

Ham sirf divar-o-dar tak nahi mahdood

Sarzameen-e-Bhopal se dayaar-e-Malwa

Gwalior-o-Chambal, Tapti-o-Nerbada

Har jagah hain hamaare naqsh maujood

Tum pahle haakim nahi yahaa.n

Tumse pahle bhi is zamii.n par

Dekhe hain hamne kai namrood...

Koi bashar is gumaa.n mein na rahe

Ki us ke bas mei.n hai

miTaa dena, doosro.n ka wujood

*Especially, when communities or marginalized groups face atrocities and often agencies that are supposed to take action, turn Nelson's eye, apart from allowing the mobs to go after the victims.

The message is that oppressors have come earlier too and gone, it may take time but human resilience and fight for ideals and justice continues. Context--recent incidents, right-wing groups rallies, attacks, vandalism and then laws applied selectively, seizure of properties and razing the structures.

Urdu dictionary

mahdood=limited, restricted
