Majaz' famous ghazal: Teri zulfon ka pech-o-kham nahi hai...

Asrarul Haq Majaz was one of the most celebrated Urdu poets of his era.

Majaz, who was born in Rudauli town in Awadh, UP, in 1911, died young. He was just 44. However, in this short span he left a treasure that has immortalised him. Read his ghazal:

Now read in Roman English script:

junoon-e-shauq ab bhi kam nahiiN hai
magar woh aaj bhi barham nahiiN hai

bohat mushkil hai dunia ka sanvarna
teri zulfo.n ka pech-o-kham nahiiN hai

meri barbadiyo.n ka ham-nashiino
tumhein kya, khud mujhe bhi gham nahiiN hai

bohat kuchh aur bhi hai is jahaaN mein
ye dunia mahaz gham hi gham nahiiN hai

ba-ee.n sail-e-Gham-o-sail-e-hawaadis
meraa sar hai ki ab bhi Kham nahiiN hai

Majaz, ek baada-kash to hai yaqiinan
jo ham sunte the voh aalam nahiiN hai
